The Best of Broadway A full line up of well entrenched shows continue on Broadway this season and
we bid welcome to a series of new productions that include remakes of
classics, a long awaited comeback by one of Broadway's most beloved stage
actresses, a star studded cast in the staging of one of Hollywood's classic
dramas, a revived musical production whose leading cast members were
selected by the public in a reality TV talent search and the last of ten
plays by a talented American playwright who placed his hometown at the focus
of each of his works.
The Drowsy Chaperone Sutton Foster the talented stage star who made her mark in 2002
in Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie returned in 2005 to play Jo in Little Women. Each
performance earned her a Tony Award nomination. Today, a sure-shot box office magnet, Sutton
finds herself once again in the limelight in this season's musical hit, The Drowsy Chaperone,
the story of a stereotypical starlet who gives up her stage career for marriage. her ability
to act, dance and sing plus her charismatic personality, which is well employed in every character
she plays has, once again, earned her a Tony Award nomination. For song, dance and well done

The Color Purple In the mid 80's readers and television audiences were
glued to the riveting and emotional saga of Alice Walker's novel, The Color Purple.
The story follows the trying life of a woman who, through love, overcomes adversity.
Successfully adapted for the stage, The Color Purple opened on Broadway as a large scale
musical and features gospel, jazz, ragtime and blues. Its beautiful musical score, colorful
costumes, collection of talented actors, actresses direction and production team have earned
The Color Purple eleven Tony Award nominations.
Coram Boy Set in the 18th century England, this play combines a bit of Oliver Twist with the Prince and the Pauper then, adds a twist of operatic drama.
This new musical drama takes a serious look at the plight of women and illegitimate children who suffered the abuses and injustices of life in institutions.
Much of their strife is seen through the eyes of two young orphans; one the son of a slave, the other the abandoned son of a wealthy man. An on-stage 20-member chorus sings music by Handel. Prepare for a long night. The show runs 2hrs 45mins.
A Chorus Line This new production of the Pulitzer Prize and tony Award winning musical heads back to Broadway for one more singular
sensation. Every move that they make will be directed by Bob Avian one of the show's original choreographers.
Les Miserables Victor Hugo's immortal tale of 19th century France amidst an
infamous revolution that forever changed society thrilled packed theaters throughout the world.
This stage spectacular, musical adaptation has showcased countless musical talents male and female,
young and mature. This fall, in an encore presentation, Broadway audiences will once again witness
this beloved production.
110 In The Shade Burt Lancaster led the cast in the Hollywood film The Rainmaker. Now, Audra
McDonald ad John Collum lend their talents to this staged rendition.
Deuce Two great stars of stage and screen, Angela Landsbury and Marion Seldes join
forces in this two-woman play about two former tennis players now in the
twilight of their lives who are coming to terms with life.
Frost/Nixon Stage legends Frank Langella and Michael Sheen have teamed up to play
Richard Nixon and Sir David Frost, respectively, in the upcoming staging of
Frost/Nixon. In this historic drama, these two fine actors will reenact the
famous television interview, which aired following Richard Nixon's
impeachment.
Grease The Broadway musical that starred Olivia Newton John and John Travolta in
the now iconic roles of Danny and Sandy is back with an exciting casting
twist. This season a reality show, You're the One That We Want, was the
casting call for the two lead characters. After a season of competition and
eliminations the voting public chose their favorite Danny and Sandy. The
show features such hit songs as Summer Nights.
Inherit The Wind The famous 1925 "Monkey Trial" depicted in the screen version starring
Spencer Tracy and Fredric March is being brought to life on stage this
spring. This intense drama, which retells the story of a Tennessee science
teacher convicted of teaching the theory of evolution in schools, is in many
ways as pertinent today as it was then. Producers have assembled an
impressive cast of thirty four led by Christopher Plummer, Brian Dennehy,
Denis O'Hare and Byron Jennings, and directed by Tony winner Doug Hughes
(Doubt). Costumes and set are being designed by Broadway's busiest designer,
Santo Loquasto. This is a 16-week limited engagement.
Radio Golf In his ten-play cycle, playwright August Wilson has chronicled the history
of black American society in Pittsburgh's Hill District where he grew up.
The ten plays combined cover the moral, social and economic evolution of the
area over a period of six decades (1940s through the present). In this the
tenth and final play completed not long before his untimely death in 2005,
Wilson portrays contemporary life in the 1990s, depicting our outlooks on
life and our aspirations. The story's characters include a successful
businessman running for public office whose pursuits are compromised by
events in his past. The cast includes veterans Harry Lennix who has
performed on television, in movies and on stage; including Ma Rainey's Black
Bottom and King Hedley two successful Broadway plays also written by August
Wilson, Tonya Pinkins another prolific actor whose accomplishments include
Broadway's Caroline or Change, Jelly's Last Jam and Merrily We Role Along..
On television she has appeared for seventeen years in the role of Livia Faye
Cudahy on All My Children. As if television and stage were not enough, she
is will soon star in a new Disney film with Patrick
Dempsey. Theater goers who have followed Wilson's cycle of plays will
recognize many of the other cast members as well who have contributed to the
success of his earlier plays.
Legally Blonde Reese Witherspoon popularized the role of sorority sister Elle Woods in the
lighthearted comedy of a "dizzy" blonde who goes to Harvard Law in order to
keep up with her boyfriend's social expectations. She learns a lot while
there including that being yourself is what really counts.
Mary Poppins
Scheduled to open at the New Amsterdam theatre on November 16, 2006 After an extensive run at The
New Amsterdam Theatre, Disney's beloved hit, The Lion King will move to the Richard Rogers Theater.
The New Amsterdam Theater owned by the Disney Company, will become home to Disney's newest contribution
to the family friendly stage, Mary Poppins. The lively tale of a London household turned upside down by
the arrival of a very inventive and amusing nanny is based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt
Disney film by the same name. In addition to the original score written for the Disney movie some new
tunes have been added. Recently, Rebecca Luker known for her work in Nine, The Sound of Music,
Showboat and The Music Man was cast in the role of Mrs. Banks.
